Oncology Review Symposium

The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Oncology Review Symposium is designed for health care professionals who are unable to attend the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting in June, as well as for those who want more in-depth unbiased information on the latest scientific and clinical findings in cancer care.

Directed by Drs. Bruce Roth and Alan Sandler of Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, this CME conference touts a distinguished faculty from Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Topics include all solid tumor types and lymphoma.

Symposium participants will receive a comprehensive review of the major highlights of the 2008 ASCO meeting, a discussion of the practice-changing implications and a new perspective on cancer research with relevance for the practicing clinician.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, research nurses/coordinators, pharmacists, administrators, data managers and regulatory specialists who are unable to attend the 2008 ASCO meeting; and for those who seek a more in-depth knowledge of the latest scientific and clinical findings in oncology care.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to discuss and describe:

  • How the advances in cancer prevention, screening and diagnosis may decrease morbidity and mortality in patients
  • Screening and detection of potential prognostic and predictive markers, and evaluation of their possible use towards improved treatment courses
  • The evaluation of the latest potential therapies and how to weigh them against current standard of care treatments to apply the most optimal strategies to affect anticipated long-term patient outcomes
  • The evaluation of the safety and efficacy of combinations of targeted agents in the treatment of cancer based on recent clinical studies
  • The results of recent research efforts, the design and rationale of ongoing studies and the optimization of these techniques for application and follow up in today’s clinical practices to determine the efficacy of these treatments for continued optimal patient care
  • The comparison and contrast of outcomes for currently used treatments and apply this knowledge for effective management of pharmacological, radiological and surgical treatment strategies based on individual patient need

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
