Inpatient and Outpatient Unit Admissions

Outpatient Transplant Unit (OTU)

Located next door to the BMT clinic area, the Outpatient Transplant Unit (OTU) is available to serve patients every day of the year, 24 hours a day. It will function as your care center and support network as you prepare for your transplant and as you recover during the post-transplant period. You may receive part or all of your care in the OTU, depending on the type of transplant you are having and your specific needs.

In addition, unit staff members educate patients and their family members about the transplant process and self care, and provide assistance with living arrangements, home health care coordination and many other concerns. The staff’s goal is to ensure you and your family members have all the information and support you need throughout the entire transplantation process.

Inpatient Transplant Unit

Most patients can expect to be admitted as an inpatient at the Vanderbilt University Hospital at least once during the transplantation process. The Inpatient Transplant Unit, located on the 11th floor of hospital, is staffed by highly trained nurses and nurses practitioners who provide round-the-clock monitoring for patients in need of close surveillance. A low nurse-to-patient ratio ensures a high level of individual hands-on care. The Unit is comprised of 27 private rooms which have HEPA filtration to ensure a clean air environment, an important factor in the recovery of transplant patients, who have compromised immune systems.
