Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center
Over 90 million Americans experience symptoms referable to the GI tract, the most common of which are dyspepsia, heartburn, and abdominal pain. While patients may first consult their primary care physicians about these conditions, many gastrointestinal (GI) problems like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are more serious, requiring the treatment of a specialist. Management of IBD begins with an accurate diagnosis, which includes a careful history, thorough physical examination, lab tests and appropriate diagnostics. The Vanderbilt Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic, part of the Vanderbilt Digestive Disease Center, is a state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment facility staffed by highly trained physicians, nurse practitioners, and dieticians who specialize in the care of patients with IBD. The Vanderbilt IBD Clinic treats all forms of the disease including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and microscopic colitis. The gastroenterologists and surgeons in the clinic apply a multidisciplinary approach to managing IBD, incorporating the latest diagnostic procedures and treatment options including endoscopy and laparoscopy. The Vanderbilt Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic as part of the Vanderbilt Digestive Disease Center is the only National Institute of Health-approved center in Tennessee. Our physicians are leading the way in research and care.
