Head and Neck Oncology Program
Treatment for head and neck cancer is provided at the Henry-Joyce Cancer Clinic and Clinical Research Center. The Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Practice has office hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Chemotherapy is administered in the outpatient area by highly trained and experienced oncology nurses.
Although head and neck cancer is a common malignancy, there are few programs in the country that have dedicated, multidisciplinary teams to treat a large number of patients. The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center has a nationally recognized Head and Neck Cancer Program which is staffed by expert surgeons, a full-time medical oncologist and full-time radiation oncologists.
In addition, ancillary services are available to support patient needs including dieticians, research nurses, speech and voice pathologists, rehabilitation services and prosthodontics.
The large patient volume supports a diverse research program that spans the spectrum from new drug therapy to quality of life issues. In addition, clinicians work closely with basic scientists to try to further our understanding of the biology of the disease.
