Howard W. Jones, III is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Jones received his B.A. degree from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and his M.D. degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He served Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado Medial Center in Denver, Colorado and did a Fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Jones has been on the faculty at Vanderbilt for over 20 years, he is a specialist in Gynecologic Oncology and has authored many scientific publications and co-edited several medical textbooks including the 9th Edition of Telinde's Textbook of Gynecologic Surgery and previous editions of Novak's Textbook of Gynecology.

He is the Editor-in-Chief for Gynecology for the Obstetrical and Gynecological Survey. He is a member of many national and international societies including the Society of Pelvic Surgeons, American Joint Committee on Cancer, American Gynecological Club, the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, and theSociety of Gynecologic Oncologists, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has served as a Board examiner since 1986. He is a past-President of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. He is the President and has previously been the Treasurer and Secretary-General of the International Federation for Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy. He is a member of the Cancer Committee of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). For many years he has been an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society and has served as President of the Tennessee Division and the Davidson County unit.
