What is Melanoma?
Melanoma accounts for 4% of skin cancers, but it is the most serious of all skin cancers and causes about 75% of skin cancer deaths. The most important warning signs for melanoma are:
- Changes in the size of a mole
- Changes in the shape of a mole
- Changes in the color of a mole
- Mole with more ragged borders
- Scaliness, bleeding, or change in appearance of a bump or nodule
- Change in sensation, itchiness, tenderness, or pain of a bump or nodule
- Spread of pigmentation beyond its borders
