United Nashville Partners Against Cancer (UN-PAC)
The COC while inventorying needs & assets in Nashville/Davidson County to address cancer disparities quickly realized substantial energy was already dedicated to this issue. Almost 300 potential cancer-related assets were identified including cancer-focused organizations, health care facilities, and other community resources. Another organization dedicated to eliminating cancer disparities was not what was needed. Instead what was needed was a vehicle to connect entities working to eliminate cancer disparities in Nashville. What came from this realization was United Nashville Partners Against Cancer (UN-PAC) (See also: UN-PAC Frequently Asked Questions)
United Nashville Partner Against Cancer (UN-PAC) is a network for sharing information and resources related to eliminating cancer disparities. Serving as the “public face” of COC, UN-PAC enhances existing efforts and facilitates the formation of community-academic partnerships for Community-based Participatory Research (CBPR) and outreach. UN-PAC achieves this in several ways, including: conducting community assessments to determine cancer needs and priorities; linking data sets about cancer-related issues among affected populations; offering membership to an UN-PAC listserve; hosting relevant presentations and workshops focused on CBPR and others. UN-PAC Listserve
The UNPAC list is an email listserv for United Nashville Partners Against Cancer (UN-PAC). UN-PAC is an open network of community members, community organizations, healthcare providers, public agencies, researchers, health-related coalitions, and others who are united in the cause of fighting against cancer and reducing the burden of cancer, particularly among racial/ethnic minorities and other disadvantaged groups in the Nashville area.
The purpose of this list is to share information, resources, announcements, etc., related to cancer and cancer disparities in the Nashville area. List subscribers may also post questions or requests for information related to cancer and disadvantaged groups, but responses should be sent ONLY to the person requesting the information, NOT to the entire list. The person requesting information may then send a summary of all responses (in a single message) to the list to share with others.
