Vandy Women Swap Gold for Pink
Vanderbilt University's Memorial Gym, typically full of black and gold, went pink on Dec. 3, 2006 for the "Pink Out," at the Vandy Women's Basketball game. The event was an awareness builder and fund-raiser for breast cancer research at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. Fans were encouraged to wear pink to the game and pink rally towels were handed out to the first 1,500 fans. A portion of ticket sales will go to Vanderbilt-Ingram to support research.
"'We are very appreciative of the team's support for breast cancer awareness and the need for research to improve treatments and preventions of this disease,' said Dr. Raymond DuBois, director of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center."
"WBB Overpowers Clemson, 82-63... Over 4,600 fans cheered the Commodores to victory and, as part of Vanderbilt's "Pink Out" promotion to raise breast cancer awareness, many joined Head Coach Melanie Balcomb's staff in wearing pink for the nationally televised contest (ESPN2)."
