Commission on Cancer Recognizes Vanderbilt for Outstanding Care

Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center have received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). The award recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients, and was granted following an on-site inspection of the cancer program by a physician surveyor in 2009.

New Campaign Highlights VICC’s Role As NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center

With the launch of a new streamlined call center and the near-completion of a major expansion and renovation of its Henry-Joyce Cancer Clinic, the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center has embarked on its first advertising campaign in nine years. The campaign’s goal is to assure that more residents of Middle Tennessee are aware of the special resource they have in Vanderbilt-Ingram as a Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute — one of only 40 in the United States and the only one in Tennessee that treats patients of all ages, with all cancer types.

Genes May Impact Vegetables’ Cancer Protection Benefits

BY: DAGNY STUART Crunchy vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage have been shown to protect against some forms of cancer. Now, a study led by Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center researchers indicates genetic makeup may influence how well those vegetables protect individual patients. Cruciferous vegetables contain isothiocyanates, which may inhibit the development of tumors through multiple mechanisms. [...]
