Cancer Evaluation
When patients come to the Vanderbilt Breast Center to discuss treatment after a cancer diagnosis, their medical history and test results are thoroughly reviewed (see What to bring to an appointment). Additional tests and a clinical exam may be done (see diagnostic follow-up), and any pathology results from an outside facility will be reviewed and confirmed by Vanderbilt physicians.
When this evaluation is complete, the diagnosis and treatment options will be thoroughly reviewed and discussed. The Vanderbilt Breast Center offers patients the unique benefit of a weekly multidisciplinary clinic. During a multidisciplinary clinic appointment, the patient will have the opportunity to meet with each physician on the treatment team on the same day, as these medical experts work together to develop a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan for that patient. The individualized plan might include treatment by surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists and/or medical oncologists.
In addition, appropriate options may be offered through the numerous clinical trials of promising new drugs or treatments that are being conducted at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, which is one of only 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers.
Please contact the Vanderbilt Breast Center at 615-322-2064 to make an appointment for a cancer treatment evaluation.
