VBC Specialized Services

High-Risk Screening

The Vanderbilt Breast Center offers a weekly clinic specifically for evaluation and follow-up of individuals who are considered at high risk for developing breast cancer because of family or personal history, genetic indicators or other factors. Patients may be referred for high-risk screening by a physician or may call the VBC directly (self referral) to set up an appointment (see What to bring to an appointment).

During a high-risk screening appointment, patients can learn about what surveillance care is appropriate for their individual situation, as well as possible preventive or risk-reduction strategies.

In addition to the services offered by the high-risk clinic at the breast center, patients also may be referred for a consultation at the Family Cancer Risk Service of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. The service offers assessments and testing options for several hereditary cancer syndromes, including melanoma and ovarian, breast and colon cancer. For more information about the Family Cancer Risk Service, call 615-343-0738 or toll-free outside the Nashville area at 1-877-688-7555.

Please contact the Vanderbilt Breast Center at 615-322-2064 to make an appointment for a high-risk screening.
