Profile

I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University. My primary area of study is in designing and implementing innovative frameworks for multi-center clinical trials. I have led the data coordinating center for multi-center trials in intensive care, research participant perception, and COVID-19 studies. Tools that we developed at Vanderbilt have improved the quality and accuracy of data collection and data sharing across research networks such as the Trial Innovation Network and the NHLBI PETAL Network. A related area of research that I am passionate about is in building new methods for clinical data extraction from electronic health record (EHR) application programming interfaces (APIs) that adhere to the HL7 FHIR standard. I am primarily responsible for supporting the dissemination and evaluation of the REDCap Clinical Data Interoperability Services (CDIS) module, which extracts data from EHR FHIR APIs, across members of the REDCap Consortium. I am also a co-lead for the Real-World Data Working Group for the HL7 Vulcan FHIR Accelerator, which seeks to implement FHIR standards to support clinical research.
