Profile

My primary research interest is in understanding genetics that underlie health disparities. I have an overarching hypothesis developed from my previous research experience in population genetics and in the genetics of common diseases with complex inheritance: that the genetic adaptation to high pathogen environments is a major contributing factor to the genetic component to health disparities between those of recent European and recent African ancestry. My academic training and research experience have provided me with an excellent background in multiple biological disciplines including molecular biology, evolutionary biology, and population genetics. I am currently part of global collaborative effort that currently involves 23 biobanks from 14 countries spanning four different continents, Global Biobank Meta-analysis Initiative (GBMI), to increase genetic analysis of common and uncommon complex disease in diverse global populations.
